Paint Shop Pro Tutorial "3D Filter" Version 2

Picture of Step 1 Open a new picture, background set to black and colors set to 16 million. Set foreground color to dark red. The filter effects colors differently so later you may wish to try some others colors. Draw a word using any font and any size. Used here was Impact with size set to 60. Antialias needs to be checked. Deselect the text by right clicking the image.
Picture of Step 2 Now to build the filter. From the top line menu click "Image" the "User Defined Filters". When the first window appears, click "New". On the next "Edit" window, type in a name for the filter (any name will do). In the grid, put "3" in each diagonal block as shown. Click "OK". The filter is now saved to be reused as required. On the next window, click "Apply".
Picture of Step 3 With any luck it should look like this. Like I said different colors will react differently. A general rule here would be to make the face of the text darker then what the filter did. This dark red works fine, no adjustment required. But if it hadn't, simply change the foreground color to a bit darker for the next step.
Picture of Step 4 Apply the text again, same size and font. Get over the still selected text and "left click and hold" to move it around. Align it to the 3d text (lower right).
Picture of Step 5 Add highlights by using the line tool and drawing light colored lines at a 45 degree angle on the corners of any square letters. For round letters draw a 45 degree line at about ten o'clock. Holding down the shift key while drawing the lines allows for the drawing of 45 degree (and straight) lines.
Picture of Step 6 Add gradients by selecting the sides of each letter with the magic wand and painting it with linear gradient. Some correction by hand using the smudge tool may be needed for any stray pixels. I retouched this one for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!
