Open a new image (100 x 100) with a dark green background.
Set foreground color to a lighter green. Using the "Airbrush" set to [round, size=10],
draw some diagonal lines as shown. For straighter lines click where you want the line to start and then hold down the shift and then click the end of the line.
Open a new image (400 x 400) and paint it with the first image [flood fill, pattern, image1]. Resample the image down to (100 x 100).
Open a new image (400 x 400) and paint it with the second image. Resample it to (100 x 100). To take out some blur, sharpen [image > normal filters > sharpen].
These never need to be made seamless, they always work for backgrounds. They also reduce well to 16 colors, as shown here.
